Dalmarnock Community Centre

This community centre nestles into the sloping site in the shadow of the Emirates Arena in the east side of Glasgow. The residents of Dalmarnock required a new community centre housing essential facilities such as a GP surgery, pharmacy, training and educational facilities alongside a large community hall and café, provided in a cutting edge building design.

The project was made possible, by part funding by the Scottish Government alongside Clyde Gateway, with the site being sold by Glasgow City Council to the Peoples Development Trust for a nominal £1.

The building is a two storey steelwork frame, designed to nestle into a redeveloped sloping embankment, whereby the development site was subject to large scale earthworks, with elements of retention. The juxtaposition of the building and reworked slopes and retaining walls, permitted the seamless integration of a steelwork bridge from first floor level, providing access and adjoining to the upper level external footpaths serving the commonwealth games arena.
