Native Glasgow, Glasgow
Native Glasgow is a new ‘aparthotel’ development within a Category A listed former commercial office building in the city centre of Glasgow, known as the Anchorline Building. Constructed in 1907 the structure was one of the first multi-storey steel framed buildings to be erected in Glasgow.
The project involved the £7m conversion and refurbishment of the upper floors to create a 64-room apart hotel and also included a single-storey steel frame vertical extension. The structural challenge involved carefully placing the new structure at rooftop level to safely transfer the additional loads through the existing frame.
As well as working with the challenges associated with a Category A listed building, there was the additional logistical issue of maintaining the ground floor and basement areas, which contain two prestigious Glasgow restaurants, that remained fully operational throughout the project.
