Woolgar Hunter were engaged to provide Civil, Structural and Geo-environmental engineering design services for MODA Living, in developing the design of their major new PRS scheme in central Glasgow. The site is one block from Blythswood Square on the location of the former Strathclyde Police HQ.
The project will be one of the first major PRS schemes completed in Glasgow, creating a quadrangle of multi-storey buildings up to 19 storeys in height, around a central landscaped podium. The design utilises an efficient reinforced concrete framed structure, with post tensioned floor slabs to minimise their depth, and therefore the height of the buildings. There is a partial basement, including car parking, built into the slope of the site.
The foundation design has successfully typically utilised a continuous flight auger (CFA) pile. As the site is located adjacent to the West Regent Street Network Rail Tunnel, the design mitigated vibration and load shedding effects by use of a sleeved, bored, cast In-situ piling system within the zone of influence of the tunnel.
The development Is now well under construction and due to complete in 2022.
